Read Along
Hearing and reading at the same time
Most Gurbani audio leaves you to find your own place on the page. This keeps the two together, word by word.
What it does
Each word of each line carries a timing mark. As the recitation reaches a word, that word lights and the rest of the line stays quiet. Nothing scrolls away from you, and you never lose the place.
Tap a word and the audio moves there. That turns out to be the part people use most: hearing a difficult word again, on its own, without rewinding by guesswork.
Who it helps
- Anyone learning to pronounce Gurmukhi, where seeing and hearing the same word together does most of the work.
- Anyone learning a bani by heart, who needs the pace held steady.
- Children, and anyone reading Gurbani for the first time.
- Anyone away from home without a Gutka Sahib.
Speed, and reading without audio
Playback speed is adjustable, which matters when a recitation is faster than you can follow. The text can also be read on its own with auto scroll, with vishraam marks shown, and in larivaar if you prefer it.
Offline
Timing data downloads once per bani or ang range and then stays on the device. After the first download, reading along needs no connection.
Gurbani text comes from the BaniDB API by Khalis Foundation. Recitations are by Bhai Jarnail Singh Ji, Giani Mehnga Singh Ji and other traditional recordings available publicly, used for devotional, non-commercial purposes only.
